a day off!

Let me tell you about last Saturday.
We had nothing on the calendar, and decided to go to the Catskills.
It was a day where we saw an incredible amount of green.

Some of the leaves turning.

And I got to knit on top of a mountain.

We enjoyed incredible views while on the chairlift and while walking around the top of Hunter Mountain, which is a ski resort in the winter and a mountain bikers paradise in the summer.

We stumbled upon a sculptor

who's been working on Rip van Winkle for 11 years. I wonder if he's working on his sculpture for as long as Rip was asleep...

You can see the ski trails from the lift.

The road from Tannersville.

Then we went to North Lake, which is near South Lake. :) A state park.

After a short hike to an escarpment where a hotel once stood, you have a view of the Hudson Valley.

Annemarie re-learned how to skip stones.

We felt very lucky to be able to take advantage of the gorgeous day and get out of town and breathe....

Greg and I bought our first house in Cornwallville which is just 10 minutes from Hunter and Tannersville. I LOVED driving everywhere, to the grocery store, laundromat, Maggie's Crooked Cafe...

I **heart** the Catskills and really miss that house. It was amazing.

Sometimes those short day trips are just what you need to recharge the batteries. It looks like you had a wonderful day. Great photos of the valley, btw.

Wow. Beautiful. And my brain is singing "skipping along the cobble stones, looking for fun and feeling groovy..." (Is my age showing or what?)

Stupid curiosity, but here goes...
Does that man lug that sculpture around with him everywhere he goes? Was he in that spot for inspiration? No wonder it's taken him 11 years so far...you couldn't talk him into a lighter, more portable medium...say, wool, perhaps? (*grin*)

Hi Karin! I read your post on the knit list - De-stash and thought I'd take a peak at your blog. You sound like a real neat gal and what a great sense of humor you have. Your knitting is beautiful! I love your sweater and your pictures! I'm using some of my stast this year to make Christmas stockings. When my SIS died last year, I was given her stash. Mostly Red Heart yarn, but I'm trying to make all the nieces & nephews a stocking, using her yarn.
I'm interested in your de-stash group, Karen
