welcome to my garden

Ten days ago, seemingly all the flowers in my yard were blooming at the same time. We've had a series of gray days with lots of rain, so it's kind of nice to look at these and be cheered.

MOUNTAIN LAUREL!!! You've got *MOUNTAIN LAUREL*!!! In deep pink, no less!!! Oh, Karin, I am SO officially jealous. That's one of my favorite flowers and I so, so miss it. It's a carrier for Sudden Oak Death which threatens to destroy all the redwoods, so it can't be brought into California. I haven't seen a mountain laurel in full, glorious bloom in something like 30 years. A few leftover flowerlets out of a spent cluster or two on one trip home at the right time of year and that's it.

I am SO going to knit Kim Salazar's Mountain Laurel Counterpane, on a grand scale, someday someday. I've got the baby alpaca set aside for it.

Oh the flowers are beautiful! I'm still waiting for Grandpa's roses to bloom. They have plenty of buds. But then they usually wait until my birthday to burst open. Pretty soon....
